Back Story and Forward-Looking Ideas
ACKNOWLEDGING the need for a publication to air out the views and issues of the marginalized and gender oppressed has given reason for the birth of Ketchup Magazine.
Ketchup, from its inception, has served as salve that tries to heal inequality, displacement, rejection and hate for gays and lesbians.
A quarterly magazine, it is about the gay and lesbian lifestyle. (Note that “gay” and “lesbian” are used as the two are the common terms for homosexuality, this despite the many other gender classifications.)
Ketchup is about placing the advocacy of gays and lesbians front and center. It is about educating society, specifically in the Philippine homefront, about the social realms and true nature of homosexuality.
Ketchup is advocacy, education and entertainment rolled into one. The magazine offers true-to-life stories and funny articles as well. It gives out tons of information on being gay and lesbian, based on history and topics that explore biological and scientific facts/theories on being a transgender, transsexual, lesbian, drag queen, bisexual, cross dresser, etc.
Ketchup, let us but emphasize, is a non-pornographic and a non-political magazine. The publication’s main goal is to build social acceptance and awareness among Filipinos based on research and exposure through media. It is a Filipino gay and lesbian magazine that covers topics on homosexuality, targeting not only the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community, but those who are trying to understand a loved one, a family member, a friend or coleague who falls under said categories.
